When I saw the super easy recipe for microwave malteaser fudge by Kitchen Mason on Pinterest, I just had to give it a go. I do love getting Jessie involved in cooking and baking, so recipes which are simple like this and don’t require the oven are just perfect! I adapted it slightly, adding munchies to the mix and using dark chocolate instead of milk.
Our microwave broke once and at first I didn’t think we’d bother replacing it, but we missed it so much! You don’t realise how often you use something until it’s not there anymore. In fact, nowadays you could say a microwave may even be THE most important item in your kitchen… especially if it’s one like the combination microwave oven by Panasonic. This offers a healthy way to cook your food to perfection whilst retaining vitamins… although I can’t vouch for the vitamin content in this fudge recipe!!
You will need 400g dark chocolate, 1 x 397g tin of condensed milk, a packet of malteasers and a packet of munchies.
First step was to line a square dish with grease proof paper. (Sorry, didn’t take a photo of this step! 🙈) Jessie then helped me to open the chocolate… she’d been eager to do this since we were in the shops!
Next, we broke up the chocolate and placed it in a microwaveable bowl with the condensed milk.
I popped this in the microwave for 30 seconds then we gave it a good stir.
Then simply repeat this in 10 second intervals until all the chocolate has melted. Jessie had to give it a taste test half way through… this is when things started to get messy!
Once it had all melted, we added the malteasers and munchies, gave it a good stir and poured it into the lined dish. It starts to set really quickly so you need to work fast!
We used a spatula to spread the mixture out evenly and then placed it in the fridge overnight. (The recipe says you should leave it a minimum of 4 hours).
When it is firm, you can slice it up into pieces and store in an airtight container. It looks impressive and is so moreish… it would make a fab Christmas gift!
Jessie loves baking so much, it’s so sweet, although it’s probably because she gets to eat half the ingredients as we go along. This recipe was great as it was so quick so she didn’t get bored (at 1 and a half her attention span isn’t that long!)
Just look at that face! 😂 She was shouting CHEESE!!!
